The best mobility items in Fortnite

A round of Fortnite takes place on a huge map that can take ages to travel. Walking from end to end of the game can seem like a chore, so there are special pieces of equipment known as mobility items that help turn that trek into a fun road trip instead of a monotonous nature walk.

There have been many mobility items throughout Fortnite's long lifespan, but some have been better than others. So here are the items that we believe are the best when zipped on the map.

Shockwave Grenade

An oldie but a goodie

The Shockwave Grenade has been around for so long that it has become a staple of Fortnite and is often used by its top players. While other mobility items have come out and made the Shockwave Grenade relatively weak, most of those items are vaulted at the start of the new season. Meanwhile, the Shockwave Grenade has stuck around, making it one of the most reliable items in the game's history.

Chainsaw

Sometimes the dumbest option is the best option

Here's the thing about Chainsaw: It's fun. It's incredibly fun. You travel across the ground riding atop a chainsaw, which is about as silly a scene as you can get from Fortnite. And if you run into an enemy, you can then use the chainsaw to slice and dice like a certain skin-faced horror icon.

The sad thing is that it's not really that good of a moving object when it comes to covering ground, because it will eventually run out of gas. But while it may not be perfect, it's a heck of a good time.

Kinetic Blade

Slicing and dicing

The Kinetic Blade is a sword that lets you dash through the air and slash enemies. What hurts Kinetic Blade is that it came out after Shockwave Hammer, which is a tough act to follow.

The blade also took a bit longer to charge its dash and only had three charges (and its rare iteration only had two.) Still a fun weapon to use, but nothing compared to that hammer.

Nitro Fist

Shoryuken!

Do you want to punch something? Do you want to move forward in the air? Do you want to have big fists while doing both of those things? Then Nitro Fist will be your jam.

These fists looked dumb but allowed you to travel horizontally and vertically with a rocket-powered uppercut. They fit the over-the-top theme of Chapter 5, Season 3, and are the closest Overwatch's Doomfist can get to Fortnite.

Rocket Ram

Enjoy your crash landing

Rocket Ram is another absurd object that shoots you into the air and then brings you down to earth with a huge crash. Any poor fool caught below you will be sent flying, which can make for some comical eliminations if they're sent off a high ledge.

It was great for traveling to great heights, covering ground, striking opponents or destroying structures. Just a great, dumb fun item, which is what you want in Fortnite.

Shuri's Black Panther Claw

Cat-Scratch Fever

Many of the best mobility items are inspired by Marvel characters. These gloves are a perfect example of that. When used, they allow you to dash, air-dash, and melee attack enemies.

When you wear these gloves, a meter charges up. When it's full, you can activate it to supercharge the claws and temporarily give yourself unlimited stamina.

Web Shooter / Grapple Glove

We all want to be Spider-Man

It will always be fun to walk around like Spider-Man. So, when Fortnite threw in the web shooters – and later even though there were still good grapple gloves – they became incredibly popular because of how good they felt to use and how efficient they were to get around.

A great mobility item that is only upstaged by some good options.

Iron Man's flight kit

Faster than a speeding bullet

Another overpowered Marvel item. This kit is so powerful that you can fly from one end of the map to the other before you run out of power.

It's like a much better version of Wings of Icarus, complete with a similar aerial attack. And if you equip the Combat Kit with it, you can even blast a unibeam in the air like Tony Stark.

War Machine's Hover Jets

Float like a butterfly, shoot like a bee

The best of Marvel Mobility items. In fact, it was so strong that many players celebrated when they vaulted it. It's essentially the ultimate form of a jetpack that allows you to hover around and use your weapons while in mid-air.

When you combine this with War Machine's arsenal and auto turrets, you become a flying nightmare to deal with.

ODM gear

Sorry Spidey, it's how you swing

Web-slinging like Spider-Man might be fun, but it has nothing on the glory that is ODM gear from Attack on Titan. When this item dropped, Fortnite stopped being about who had the best aim and became all about who could move around the map the fastest.

If you've never used ODM gear, imagine web shooters multiplied. It not only spins you around, but propels you forward to give you a burst of speed. If that wasn't enough, you can grab enemies to perform a melee attack. Bring it back Epic!

Airbending

Ride like the wind

Airbending is just ridiculous. Tying into the Avatar: The Last Airbender event, this item creates a circle of air around you that lets you zoom around the map at ridiculous speeds and jump to reach higher planes.

It is almost impossible to hit an opponent using this item as you become a living vehicle that can run circles around everyone. Maybe a little over the top, but a lot of fun.

Shockwave Hammer

Goat of bashing things

When it comes to mobility items, the Shockwave Hammer stands above the rest as it offers an excellent balance of offensive and mobility capabilities. Offensively, the hammer can hit enemies for good damage. It would be enough if it was all the Shockwave Hammer did, but it also allows you to bounce on land – and in water – to gain height and cover wider distances.

Also, for some reason, you can hold multiple hammers in your inventory. If you want, you can pick up nothing but shockwave hammers that allow you to bounce near-infinitely and smash enemies. That's why the Shockwave Hammer is the undisputed king of mobility items.
